I want to talk about something that is so, so important to every single woman on the planet.

Breast Cancer.

It’s something that as women, we are all very aware of how indiscriminate it is and how important it is to check our breasts regularly.

I want you to meet Courtney.

She is a wife, a mother, a daughter and a friend. She is just like any of us. Courtney is 33 years old and has very recently been diagnosed with Grade 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Triple Negative Breast Cancer is linked to the BRCA1 mutation and is extremely aggressive. It doesn’t respond to any of the oestrogen, progesterone or HER2 treatments, so Courtney is starting chemo treatment next week and will continue to have chemo sessions every two weeks for the next four months. Once she has completed her chemo sessions she will be having a double mastectomy followed by a full hysterectomy to ensure the cancer doesn’t return.

Courtney wants to bring awareness to us all, and for all of us women to be familiar with our own bodies and to make sure we check for any bumps and lumps every single month. Breast Cancer does not discriminate, it can happen to any one of us at any time.

I invited Courtney into my studio with her beautiful girls Charlotte (6) and Gracie (18 months) to capture some special images of the incredible bond they share. I wanted to make sure she had photographs of herself to look at during those tough times she has ahead and to remember that she has two beautiful little girls who love her more than anything else in the world.
